I am currently an Associate Professor in the Department of Biology at Pittsburg State University in Pittsburg, KS. I earned my PhD at the University of Missouri in Columbia, MO working under Dr. Charles Nilon. The objectives of my PhD research were to describe the ecological features of vacant lots in Baltimore, MD with a focus on bird communities, and to evaluate how residents' perceive vacant land. During this time, I worked within the construct of the Baltimore Ecosystem Study, a long-term ecological research study. I completed my Master's at the University of Delaware in Newark, DE. The focus of my Master's research was to determine the impacts of soil calcium on territory placement and nesting success of a forest bird community in Delaware. My interests in avian ecology and songbirds were cultivated at the University of Massachusetts in Amherst, MA where I completed my Bachelor of Science degree during 2006-2010. There, I worked in Dr. Jeff Podos' lab and completed a senior thesis on song sharing and vocal performance variation in swamp sparrows (Melospiza georgiana).
